HOW THE AUCTIONS STARTED:
The brutal murder of widow Laurika Potgieter of Hartbeespoort, North West, in 2016 shocked the country. Her 3 young children are now left without a parent. The art community, under the lead of artist Adriaan Boshoff Jr. (who knew Laurika personally) launched an art auction where artists from all over South Africa contributed by donating paintings for the Potgieter Kids Art Auction. We raised an astonishing R360,000 in 3 weeks and opened a Trust Fund for the Potgieter Kids. They are now in care of Laurika’s sister, who is a divorced mother with 4 kids of her own. We are able to assist with daycare costs for the youngest, as well as school and sports necessities.
HELPING ARTISTS AND THE POTGIETER KIDS:
The youngest of the 3 girls is was only 4 years old when her mother was killed. She will need our assistance for at least another 14 years, until she matriculates.
A SUGGESTION WAS MADE that auctions should be held on a regular basis, but taking in account that artists are struggling to survive themselves, we came up with another solution. We are now auctioning quality artworks at a discounted rate. Artists now have a “month end income”. A 20% admin fee is paid to Envy Artists Direct Pty Ltd only when an artwork sells. Andri Boshoff (wife of artist Adriaan Boshoff Jr.); and Jessica Turner handle the advertising and admin on behalf of our group of artists so that they can spend more time in the studio and less time selling their work.

25% of the Envy Artists Direct Pty Ltd profit is paid over to help Laurika’s sister with the day-to-day costs of her new, very large household.
OUR MONTHLY FACEBOOK AUCTIONS:
The purpose of Envy Artists Direct Online Auctions is to create a hub for art collectors to come and purchase a wide variety of South African Art that is on offer at dealer discounted rates. The buyer is placed into direct contact with the artist, thereby breaking the rule that was set in the “old art market”, where the dealer was the link between artist and buyer.
Envy Artists Direct allows 100 artists to work together, support each other and promote the group. By standing together, and with a combined effort, we can be more visible and can offer a wider variety. We realized that there are many Facebook pages advertising art for sale. The problem with these pages is that anyone can post anything.

We know that serious art collectors do not want to search endlessly to find quality art. By assessing every artwork before advertising it, we ensure that every piece on offer on our page is a QUALITY ARTWORK.
Envy Artists Direct Online Auctions invites you to join our monthly auctions that runs from the last Friday of each month until the bids close on the last Sunday of the month at 20h00. Bids are placed in the comment section underneath the artwork. Anonymous bids may be placed through the message function.
